The Technology Conference of the Law Society in England and Wales was held on the 23d-24th of September, 2020.

Dr. Elizabeth Sushko has attended this Technology Conference of the Law Society in England and Wales.
Speakers and attendees discussed the important practical issues of business operation in England and Wales, when complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Issues of technology and innovation were also raised and discussed at the Conference.

The Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (hereinafter – GDPR) was adopted on 27 April 2016 and came into force on 25 May 2018. The GDPR has direct effect in the European Union and European Economic Area.
A fundamental aim of GDPR is to make sure every individual’s personal data is used properly and legally.
A European Regulation has direct effect in the law of the United Kingdom and automatically applies in the United Kingdom until the end of the transition period (31 December 2020).
At the end of the transition period, it is expected that GDPR will be brought into UK law as the ‘UK GDPR’.

It is important and necessary for UK companies to make corresponding steps and adapt their policies on data protection to comply with UK legislation.
