January 1, 2021 the Civil Code of People’s Republic of China has entered into force

The Civil Code of People’s Republic of China has entered into force on the 1st of January, 2021. It was adopted by the National People's Congress of China on the 28th of May 2020. 

The new Civil Code comprises seven parts, Supplementary Provisions and contains 1,260 articles.

The names of the parts are as follows:

  1. Part I "General Rules";
  2. Part II "Property Rights";
  3. Part III "Contracts";
  4. Part IV "Rights of Personality";
  5. Part V "Marriage and Family";
  6. Part VI "Succession";
  7. Part VII "Tort Liabilities".
